Chasing Shadows Exhibition
in PhotoIreland Festival 2011
Following last year’s very successful Chasing Shadows exhibition, as part of PhotoIreland Festival, Chasing Shadows II continues to explore theme of the relationship between digital and nineteenth century photographic processes as well as exhibiting some unique processes using period equipment and methods.
I will present a series entitled 'Positive-Negative', which is an exploration of a specific feature of ambrotype image - glass negative that is intentionally underexposed, so that the negative image appears as a positive, when viewed against a dark background.
The play with a black paint in the background brings the images on the edge of photography and painting, builds the three dimensional effect and encourages the viewer to closer examination.
Ambrotypes are unique images which can’t be replicated.
